Originally from Oakland, CA with a mixed ethnic and cultural background, Emily studied Astronomy and Human Geography at San Francisco State University. Her love for photography was an inherited gift from her father, who saw things beyond the words that defined them. With a high exposure and passion for arts, Emily’s interests and talents have taken her from here to there and everywhere in between, where she has discovered photography to be the best form of conveying what she’s seen and felt. She's settled in the Pacific Northwest now, having explored the various translations of what a good photo brings to the soul, but the journey never stops. Photography as a discipline has opened Emily’s eyes and helped her look into things rather than just at them. She fancies herself a collector of moments, as her photojournalistic-style of shooting allows her to feel more connected with her subjects.
In her spare time, Emily enjoys hiking with her dog, getting lost in a foreign town, and playing music. Her favorite photographers include Roy DeCarava, Brassai, Thomas Kettner, and Gordon Parks. She is a life-long student of the University of 510 Media with several other uniquely talented individuals that are transforming the cultural realm of the Bay Area.
